Job Summary

This is a key role in the Facility Maintenance series, reporting to the Maintenance Mechanic or Supervisor. The Maintenance Mechanic Assistant will assist in a variety of prescribed and operational duties, including room set-ups and tear-downs, minor maintenance work, and grounds maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform room setups and tear-downs individually or with assistance, following schematics and plans.
  • Perform minor, routine maintenance duties, including changing lightbulbs and ceiling tile, and minor plumbing tasks, as directed by a Supervisor.
  • Perform maintenance of grounds, including cleaning up debris, mowing lawns, raking leaves and grass, trimming shrubs and trees, etc.
  • Assist Maintenance Mechanics in performance of campus facility maintenance and repair operations.
  • Prepare and maintain records, and maintain and order supplies as needed.
  • Receive campus mail and packages, sort into mail boxes and deliver items to individuals or offices as directed by Supervisor.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Two (2) years grounds or maintenance related experience.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Ability to safely perform minor building maintenance duties.
  • Ability to move and arrange furniture and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret room setup requests.
  • Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and all levels of staff and faculty.
Working Conditions

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
