Position Overview:
At Houston Methodist Hospital, the Senior Certified Medical Assistant (Sr. MA) plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care. This position is designed for individuals who possess advanced knowledge and expertise in performing complex examinations and treatments. Under the direct supervision of a Physician or Registered Nurse, the Sr. MA is responsible for executing delegated medical assistant tasks for designated patient groups, ensuring high-quality support in patient services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Execute general administrative tasks in compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, and governmental regulations, alongside company policies.
- Actively participate in patient care under the guidance of a physician, adhering to the medical assistant's scope of practice.
- Schedule patient appointments, confirm medical necessity, and verify eligibility for care as needed.
- Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource for fellow Medical Assistants, providing training and orientation as appropriate.
- Foster teamwork by proactively addressing the needs of colleagues and assisting when required.

Collaboration:
- Work closely with the interprofessional healthcare team, ensuring effective communication and reporting of vital patient care information.
- Engage in pre-visit planning, including the completion of necessary documentation.
- Collect and document vital signs, chief complaints, and medical history in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR).
- Follow up with patients to ensure adherence to treatment recommendations and coordinate care with relevant healthcare providers.

Quality and Safety:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam and treatment rooms, including sterilization of instruments and equipment.
- Manage inventory and ordering of medical supplies.
- Demonstrate self-motivation in managing time and prioritizing tasks effectively, contributing to team skill development and performance improvement.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of experience as a medical assistant, particularly in managing complex chronic diseases or within a specialty area.
- Required certifications include RMA, CMA, or equivalent credentials from recognized agencies.
- Proficient in English, with strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Knowledgeable in medical practices, patient care, and the use of medical equipment.
- Competent in maintaining clinical quality assurance and accurate medical records.
- Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related tasks.

Travel Requirements:
- May require travel within the Houston Metropolitan area.
