Special Education Coordinator

The Special Education Coordinator is a key member of our instructional leadership team, responsible for ensuring the success of students with disabilities in our college preparatory program. This role requires a strong understanding of special education law and regulations, as well as the ability to develop and implement effective instructional plans and materials.
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a related field, active teaching certification in special education (grades 6-12), and certification in Educational Leadership and Supervision. A minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar position is required, with a Doctorate in a related field and/or prior teaching experience highly desired.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective instructional plans and materials for students with disabilities
- Collaborate with teachers and other instructional leaders to design and implement high-quality professional learning experiences
- Assess and evaluate a team of special education teachers and instructional associates
- Design and implement instructional and monitoring tools for students with disabilities
- Support the development and implementation of a co-teaching model
- Facilitate and assist with MSDE compliance monitoring activities
- Develop and conduct internal compliance monitoring activities
- Provide countywide in-service trainings regarding special education compliance issues
- Attend monthly compliance meetings at the state level (SESAC, DSE)
- Participate in Due Processes Hearings as necessary
- Attend court dates for truancy issues related to IEP students
- Plan, procure, and manage supplemental service contracts related to assigned programs (speech, OT)
- Monitor development and implementation of all aspects of special education process
- Collaborate with school-based administrators and MSDE compliance monitors to ensure discipline of students with disabilities is handled appropriately
- Work collaboratively with the special education advisory committee to refine and enhance programs and services for students with disabilities
- Compile school special education data into manageable reports for administration and teachers to drive instruction and intervention
- Implementation and monitoring of evidence-based interventions for students with disabilities
- Manage department grants and monitoring outcomes
- Attend most IEP meetings for the school
Requirements:
- Master's degree in a related field
- Active teaching certification in special education (grades 6-12)
- Certification in Educational Leadership and Supervision
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar position
- Doctorate in a related field and/or prior teaching experience highly desired
