Mental Health Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatrist, MD to join our team at Heartland Community Health Center. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality psychiatric services to adults and children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnosing Mental Health Conditions: Assess patients to determine if they meet the criteria for specific mental health disorders in an outpatient clinic.
- Developing Treatment Plans: Develop comprehensive treatment plans tailored to the individual's needs, which may involve prescribing medications, recommending psychotherapy or other evidence-based therapies, and providing guidance on lifestyle modifications.
- Evaluation: Evaluate patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; and ordering laboratory tests and evaluating results.
- Medication Management: Prescribe and monitor medications used in the treatment of mental health conditions, assessing the patient's response to medication, adjusting as necessary, and educating patients about potential side effects and interactions.
- Collaborate with Other Healthcare Professionals: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as primary care providers, social workers, and dentists, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for their patients.
- Monitor Progress and Follow-up Care: Regularly assess the progress of their patients and adjust treatment plans as needed, monitoring the effectiveness of medications, evaluating the impact of therapy, and providing ongoing support to help individuals achieve their treatment goals.
- Interdisciplinary Care: Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and assessment for patients seeking care or referred to by healthcare professionals.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, or Psychiatric Physician Assistant
- One year of postgraduate training in an accredited residency program
- Valid Licensure for the practice of psychiatry; State of Kansas
- Board Certified in Adult and/or Child Psychiatry, State of Kansas
- Valid DEA Certificate
- BLS Certification
- Experience working in a mental health setting preferred
- Strong diagnostic and assessment skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
Working Conditions:
- This role requires movement throughout the building day or multiple locations during the day.
- This role may be exposed to infections and contagious diseases.
- This role is subject to interruptions.
- This role requires management of personnel and procedures in a high stress & high paced environment.
- This role completes tasks that are performed in close physical proximity to other people.
- This role requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Moves throughout the building to meet with employees, patients, or visitors.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Frequent communication with patients about their experience at the health center. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as tablets, scanners, printers, and phones.
- Adhere to process protocol or procedures.
