Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and passionate individual to become a key member of our Testing Team.
In this role, you will conduct validation and verification testing of critical flight components and subsystems for our VTOL electric aircraft.
The insights gained from these tests will guide our hardware design initiatives and facilitate the transition to production-ready components.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and mentor team members in creating test setups for the validation and verification of aircraft hardware.
- Collaborate closely with the Airframe and Actuators, Propulsion and Avionics, and Software teams to accurately capture the intricacies of components, system architectures, and operational conditions, translating them into effective tests.
- Formulate comprehensive test plans, procedures, instrumentation strategies, and test stand designs to ensure thorough and repeatable testing.
- Analyze test data to produce reports that provide actionable feedback to engineering teams for hardware optimization.
- Oversee project timelines and status for the Testing Team, working with the Team Lead to ensure optimal resource allocation.
- Design and implement tools to enhance the productivity of the Testing Team.
- Manage the hardware requirements of the Testing Team and offer recommendations for future investments.
- Experience in hardware testing within a laboratory setting.
- Background in electromechanical systems or robotics, with knowledge of servo actuation principles.
- Proven experience in verification and validation testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Hands-on experience in setting up and executing tests with test hardware and data acquisition systems.
- Proficient in LabView for data collection and Diadem/MATLAB for data analysis.
- Familiarity with mechanical design and the creation of manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
- Robust analytical skills and the capacity to foster collaborative working relationships.
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; advanced degree with 3 years of experience or equivalent.
- Experience in industrial test laboratory environments and protocols.
- Familiarity with high voltage systems.
- Project management experience.
- Proficiency in Dassault Systemes CAD Catia, particularly in Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly Design.
- Hands-on skills in machine shop operations, including lathe, mill, and welding.
- Experience in aircraft homebuilding or rapid prototyping is advantageous.
- Knowledge of aircraft FAA certification processes.
At Joby, compensation comprises a base salary and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
