The Research Scientist serves as a Study Director (SD) and is accountable for overseeing research projects, including management, execution, analysis, and reporting of findings. This role ensures that laboratory and/or animal research activities are conducted in compliance with approved IACUC Protocols and established Study Protocols. The SD guarantees that research personnel are adequately trained and adhere to regulatory standards, company policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Key Responsibilities
- Adapt and refine research models to align with client specifications.
- Engage directly with clients and internal stakeholders to ascertain needs and deliverables, formulating strategies to meet scientific objectives.
- Serve as a mentor to junior team members by exemplifying effective communication and project management skills.
- Fulfill the Study Director responsibilities as outlined in SOPs for studies of basic complexity.
- Develop study protocols, amendments, and timelines.
- Create IACUC protocols and amendments, and may act as the SD for IACUC protocols.
- Participate in proposal management and budgetary discussions.
- Order necessary materials and supplies for research projects.
- Establish study calendars and matrices as required.
- Oversee study execution, including supervision of primary technicians and quality control of data.
- Analyze, interpret, and present data with support from senior scientific personnel as needed.
- Compile Data Submissions, Final Reports, and/or Summary Reports with assistance from senior scientific staff.
- Provide technical and scientific support to research staff, potentially assisting in training initiatives.
- Engage in essential technical procedures to maintain current skills.
- Present research findings at conferences and meetings, which may involve occasional travel.
- Review and edit company guidelines and SOPs as necessary.
- Contribute as a member of the IACUC.
- Understand and execute tasks in accordance with company policies and SOPs.
- Adhere to all regulatory guidelines, occupational health standards, and health and safety protocols in line with company procedures.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- B.S. Degree or equivalent in life sciences or a related discipline.
- Over 5 years of experience in managing research projects, with supervisory and training experience to work effectively with staff.
