As a 24/7 care facility, we require staff to maintain a flexible schedule, including shifts during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening process, which includes a criminal history check, DMV report, DFPS background check, FBI fingerprinting, drug screening, and TB test.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and able to pass a drug test and background check.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Child and Youth Support Specialist is responsible for supervising, guiding, coaching, instructing, and communicating respectfully with all youth in their daily environments. Youth will be treated with the utmost respect, embodying a customer service-oriented approach to foster sustainable self-regulation skills.
PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Providing direct care for youth who have experienced trauma within a therapeutic framework.
- Collaborating with team members to ensure the well-being of the children and the continuity of the program.
- Effectively communicating with colleagues, medical staff, and others involved in the care of the youth.
- Offering emotional support through trauma-informed practices, including praise, positive reinforcement, and empathy.
- Employing rational problem-solving techniques to enhance critical thinking skills and assist with behavioral challenges.
- Planning and facilitating both educational and recreational activities for individuals and families.
- Modeling positive interpersonal skills for clients, guardians, and caretakers.
- Maintaining accurate records and communication with internal and external agencies regarding youth behavior and progress.
- Preparing documentation for program budgeting, tracking youth progress, and reporting incidents.
- Encouraging participation in activities while respecting personal boundaries.
- Assisting with the supervision of activities to support client development.
- Helping youth with personal laundry tasks.
- Managing the daily schedule of the residence and assisting with transportation needs.
- Adhering to all organizational policies and procedures.
- Reporting any suspected abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.
- Keeping supervisors informed of any emergencies or unusual situations.
- Participating in scheduled training and staff meetings.
- Documenting necessary data for the USDA food program.
- Ensuring compliance with licensing regulations.
- Prioritizing the safety and supervision of youth at all times.
- Completing all tasks assigned by supervisors.
- Reporting maintenance issues to supervisors.
PROGRAM SPECIFICS
- Implementing individualized therapeutic protocols for youth.
- Ensuring that the basic needs of hygiene, nutrition, and clothing are met.
- Preparing and serving meals as required.
- Maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
- Guiding youth in developing self-regulation skills across various life domains.
- Providing counseling for personal challenges using established therapeutic principles.
- Addressing youth's medical, dental, and behavioral health needs.
- Supporting the moral, spiritual, and educational growth of youth.
- Delivering crisis intervention while maintaining emotional composure.
- Engaging in recreational activities with youth.
- Assisting youth with educational tasks, including homework and projects.
- Providing transportation for school, work, and appointments.
- Supporting Shift Supervisors with documentation and treatment needs.
- Exhibiting positive role modeling and leadership skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A college degree or relevant coursework is preferred.
- A valid Texas driver's license and reliable transportation are necessary.
- Flexibility to work various hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to pass reference checks to ensure suitability for youth care.
- Willingness to attend all required training sessions.
- Physical, mental, and emotional capability to perform assigned tasks.
- Must be at least 21 years of age as per licensing standards.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to engage in physical activities such as bending, kneeling, and walking briskly.
- Stamina for long working hours and travel.
- Capability to lift moderate to heavy weights, up to 60 pounds.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow and give instructions clearly.
- Visual acuity for reading and monitoring environments.
