Position SummaryUnder the general oversight of the Director of Special Education, the Behavior Analyst Specialist will provide expert consultation and direct instructional support to students with significant disabilities, including those on the autism spectrum and those experiencing emotional challenges. This role involves collaborating with school administrators, educators, and families to implement effective behavioral assessment and intervention strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Design and deliver ongoing training in evidence-based practices of applied behavior analysis (ABA), including classroom management and instructional strategies tailored to students' needs.
- Assist in the planning and execution of programs and policies that utilize ABA principles for students with autism and emotional disturbances.
- Collaborate with district staff to develop and monitor data collection systems, ensuring the effectiveness of behavioral interventions.
- Consult with special education teams to create interim intervention plans for students transitioning between educational settings.
- Provide resources and professional development to educators and parents on ABA, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and other methodologies for supporting students with behavioral challenges.
- Conduct comprehensive behavioral assessments and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in compliance with relevant educational codes.
- Work closely with special education teachers to formulate effective behavioral intervention strategies that stabilize students in their current learning environments.
- Engage with parents to discuss behavioral incidents and gather necessary documentation.
- Present detailed reports on assessment outcomes during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, making informed recommendations based on findings.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with external agencies that support students with disabilities.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- In-depth knowledge of research methodologies, data collection, and evaluation techniques.
- Familiarity with applicable laws and best practices for supporting students with disabilities in educational settings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, and educational staff.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in data analysis and report preparation.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Competence in utilizing technology for communication and presentations.
This position involves both indoor and outdoor work environments, with potential exposure to various weather conditions. Physical demands include the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and engage in activities such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
