Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team at Western & Southern Life. As an Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible for performing routine general ledger accounting, assisting in the creation of financial statements, and providing financial reporting and variance analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • General Ledger Accounting: Perform routine general ledger accounting responsibilities for life insurance subsidiaries on both a statutory and GAAP basis.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Assist in the preparation of routine monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and additional financial reporting for distribution to management, the Board of Directors, regulators, and rating agencies.
  • Financial Variance Analysis: Provide monthly financial variance analysis of selected general ledger accounts and escalate comments to department leadership.
  • Process Improvement: Assist in the implementation and maintenance of effective processes and procedures for completing and improving work.
  • Analysis Tool Development: Assist management in identifying and developing analysis tools necessary to help manage the business.
  • Accounting Issue Identification: Identify accounting issues impacting the Company and notify appropriate personnel.
  • Statutory and GAAP Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge of current statutory and GAAP accounting principles.
  • Fixed Assets Reporting: Complete fixed assets reporting, including analyzing the Construction in Progress account, recording assets, organizing annual physical inventory, reconciling physical inventory report and the fixed asset system, retiring assets, preparing monthly depreciation journal entry, and preparing monthly fixed asset reports.
  • Unclaimed Property Administration: Participate heavily in the administration of the unclaimed property reporting function.
  • Account Reconciliation: Perform routine account reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Special Projects: Participate as a resource on special projects, including testing of new systems and processes.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or finance-oriented field.
  • Experience: Typically having up to two years of professional experience.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated basic knowledge and understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting principles, proven ability to analyze and interpret financial statements, demonstrated successful experience in problem-solving situations, proven experience handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, demonstrated commitment to quality, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Work Setting and Travel Requirements

This is a full-time position with no travel requirements.
