Veterinary Medical Assistant

This is a 75% time (30 hours a week) position at the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Medical Center. The successful candidate will assist clinicians and other medical staff members with veterinary medical procedures, including specialty care, emergency care, intensive care, surgical assisting, radiography, anesthesiology, laboratory procedures, administering treatments, animal nursing, animal restraint and handling, preventative care, clinical research, etc.
Key Responsibilities- Assist DVM and CVT with patient treatments, drop off discharges, etc.
- Provide excellent service to DVM's and medical team that support quality patient care.
- Facilitate open communication and teamwork among clinical care team members (DVM's, students, veterinary technicians, etc.) in support of positive patient outcomes and excellent patient care.
- Must be able to restrain and handle animals and/or assist with animal restraint and handling.
- Hourly treatments on ICU, Wards and Isolation patients.
- Assists in deep cleaning of ER, ICU, Wards and Isolation.
- Prepares for incoming patients in ER, ICU, Wards, ICW, and Isolation.
- Under the direction of a DVM or CVT, applies clinical job knowledge and competence to the management of the patient.
- Delivers outstanding customer service, including greeting and receiving patients and clients in a professional, caring and courteous manner.
- One year of post high school experience or education in veterinary assisting, including animal restraint, veterinary terminology, veterinary anatomy, patient first aid, and medication administration.
- Problem solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of veterinary medicine terminology, knowledge of proper restraint and handling of small animals.
