The Youth Sports Program Coordinator at Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA plays a crucial role in the planning and execution of the youth sports initiatives, ensuring that the programs fulfill their intended objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Aids in overseeing the youth sports program, which includes formulating and tracking the program budget to achieve financial goals; gathering program statistics to assess and enhance the effectiveness and participation rates; securing, scheduling, and maintaining necessary facilities; organizing and scheduling activities or events; and managing program equipment for practices and games.

2. Ensures that programs and services align with community needs by supervising current program activities, initiating new program activities, and expanding offerings within the community as necessary. Assists in the promotion and dissemination of program information.

3. Guarantees adherence to federal, state, and local regulations pertinent to program areas, including ADA accommodations when applicable; ensures compliance with YMCA program standards and safety protocols.

4. Provides constructive feedback to Youth Sports staff for developmental purposes and keeps the Youth Program Director informed about the performance of field representatives and referees, addressing concerns as they arise and escalating issues to the Program Director when necessary.

5. Organizes teams; creates and shares practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials and coaches; develops and distributes rules, guidelines, and handbooks; procures and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates team photographs; organizes and hosts seasonal events; and conducts sports clinics.

6. Demonstrates relationship-building skills in all interactions; fosters and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, parents, caregivers, and community organizations (e.g., state child care licensing agency, school administration) to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains consistent, clear, and concise communication within the area of responsibility.

7. Participates in Y activities, such as committees, special events, and fundraising efforts.

8. Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma, GED, or associate degree preferred.

· YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.

· One to two years of relevant experience (e.g., coaching, team management, customer service) preferred.

· Understanding of child development, recreational activities, programming, and safety practices.

· Familiarity with various sports.

· Minimum age of 21 preferred.

· Completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire.

· Completion of YMCA program-specific training.

· Ability to connect effectively with diverse groups from all social and economic backgrounds.

· Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

· The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.

· This position is part-time.
