Respiratory Care Intern

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Care Intern, under the guidance of a licensed Respiratory Therapist, is responsible for delivering fundamental respiratory assistance to non-critical patients. This position may also involve the upkeep, assembly, and sanitation of respiratory supplies and equipment, ensuring a tidy and operational workspace.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists in obtaining arterial and/or capillary blood samples from patients, processes these samples, records and communicates results, and performs necessary quality controls under supervision.
  • May administer oxygen delivery systems and set up non-invasive monitoring devices such as oximeters or end-tidal CO2 analyzers.
  • Provides basic respiratory therapy techniques, including aerosol therapy, postural drainage, incentive spirometry, and metered dose inhalers.
  • May conduct EKGs and has a basic understanding of electronic monitoring and lead placement.
  • Responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, testing, and maintaining respiratory equipment.
  • Orders and manages oxygen supplies for various units.
  • Ensures availability of respiratory equipment for procedures and examinations.
  • Coordinates repairs for malfunctioning equipment.
  • Handles inventory management for respiratory supplies and equipment.
  • Inspects incoming supplies and equipment for quality assurance.
  • Labels storage areas for efficient inventory management.

Education:
  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an AMA accredited Respiratory Care Program (required).
Required Licensing & Certifications:
  • Current Respiratory Care Limited Permit, as mandated by state regulations.
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
Experience:

No prior experience required.
