Position Overview:
The Senior Financial Accountant will collaborate closely with fellow members of the Accounting and Finance Department to support general ledger management, facilitate the monthly closing process, prepare financial statements and various reports, and assist with internal and external audits as well as tax return filings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and actively advocate for all Safety policies and procedures, ensuring that all accidents, incidents, and near-misses are reported in alignment with our foremost Core Value – Safety first, in all endeavors.
- Serve as a vital contributor to the Accounting & Finance team by aiding in the preparation of monthly closing journal entries for intercompany allocations and conducting related analyses, such as year-over-year accounts receivable comparisons.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly bank reconciliations, weekly cash flow reports, and daily cash reports as needed, along with various analyses of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Generate periodic reports, including:
- Site Management Cost-to-Date Report
- Diesel fuel tax filings
- Backlog tracking and updates for estimating
- Equipment usage reports detailing equipment hours, including reviewing and posting to Heavy Job & Viewpoint
- Various ad hoc reports and Excel analyses
- Support the Assistant Controller with accounting for sponsored Joint Ventures, including cost downloads, invoicing, and payment processing for joint venture partners.
- Conduct check-runs and partner distributions, generate and review monthly financial statements, and manage the posting of payment applications.
- Process, post, and pay joint venture subcontractor payables and assist the Assistant Controller in preparing monthly Job Cost Recap reports for all construction projects.
- Participate in year-end external financial audits and income tax return preparation, as well as ongoing internal job estimate to completion and process control audits.
- Prepare and assist in the filing of certain state sales and use tax returns, including posting ACH payments, and prepare specific personal property tax returns.
- Conduct monthly General and Administrative actual versus budgeted variance analyses, including running detailed cost reports.
- Attain proficiency with general ledger and financial reporting software – Viewpoint, becoming integral to the implementation and maintenance of key modules, while assisting with special projects as needed.
- Communicate effectively with various levels of management to gather, analyze, and summarize financial information.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
- Previous experience in construction and percentage of completion is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with Viewpoint software is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
