This is a Limited Duration role with an hourly compensation structure, where the salary is contingent upon hours worked. The hourly wage ranges from $29.65 to $42.15.
This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and may qualify for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as stipulated by law.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe primary objective of this role is to assist in reducing mandatory overtime for regular shifts within the institution. The recruitment aims to fill Limited Duration positions with current or former employees to alleviate overtime demands on permanent staff.
Essential QualificationsApplicants must meet the following criteria:
- Possession of a current DPSST certification.
- Current employment as a certified DOC employee or nearing retirement.
As a Correctional Officer, you will collaborate with a team to uphold institutional order, enforce regulations, and ensure the safety and security of the facility. Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring and supervising the activities of individuals in custody.
- Conducting regular cell checks and searches for contraband.
- Resolving conflicts and enforcing disciplinary measures.
- Reporting on safety, sanitation, and fire hazards.
- Ability to accurately interpret the behaviors of individuals in custody.
- Capacity to observe and understand the habits of individuals in custody.
- Skills in directing and instructing individuals in both individual and group settings.
- Knowledge of safe handling of firearms, restraints, and security equipment.
- Impartial enforcement of institutional rules and regulations.
- Familiarity with operating communication devices.
- Maintaining alertness and vigilance throughout the shift.
