Responsibilities of the Pipefitting Operations Manager:

This role entails delivering specialized pipefitting knowledge for various maritime entities, including military and commercial vessels. The individual will be tasked with executing assigned duties in compliance with the relevant regulatory standards applicable to the vessel.


Key Duties:

  • Report directly to the Production Manager, collaborating closely with both Production and Project Management teams.
  • Effectively oversee small teams within the discipline and/or manage subcontractors.
  • Ensure adherence to lockout/tagout protocols and the Work Authorization (WAF) process.
  • Comprehend and implement all Hot Work Procedures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in assembling and securing pipes, tubes, fittings, and associated equipment according to specifications through various methods such as welding and threading.
  • Conduct inspections and tests on installed systems and pipelines utilizing pressure gauges and hydrostatic testing.
  • Prepare detailed layouts of pipe systems and supports in accordance with blueprints.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading accurately.
  • Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems and related machinery, following specified guidelines.
  • Plan the layout, installation, or repair of pipe systems based on technical specifications.
  • Select appropriate pipe sizes, types, and materials, including supports and hangers.
  • Ensure all information aligns with shipyard fabrication practices and tools.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in pipefitting is preferred.
  • At least 2 years in a managerial capacity is required.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory; an Associate degree or higher in a management field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Word.
  • Strong typing skills and the ability to navigate company-required software efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to maintain cleanliness and organization on the job site.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience in budget management as outlined by Project Managers.
  • Ability to provide training on company policies and procedures.
  • Competence in evaluating team member contributions and administering promotions or disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations and confidentiality at all times.
  • Familiarity with both Imperial and Metric measurement systems.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess or be able to obtain a passport for travel.
  • Successful completion of a qualification test is required prior to hiring.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items and local regulations is advantageous.
  • Understanding of ABS and USCG rules and regulations is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must pass the Ishihara test for color vision.
  • Must pass a pulmonary function exam for roles requiring respiratory protection.
  • Ability to lift tools weighing up to 50 pounds and work in tight spaces.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, kneeling, and walking.
  • Must have correctable vision to 20/40.

Work Environment:

  • Adhere to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements as determined by job hazard analysis.
  • Report all accidents and injuries to supervisors and the safety department.
  • Maintain a work pace that meets company deadlines.
