Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction & Planning Specialist to join our team at Indiana University. This role will be responsible for managing, supervising, and coordinating new construction and remodeling projects on assigned campuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate new construction and remodeling projects on assigned campuses, ensuring timely completion and adherence to university standards.
  • Review and approve contractors' billing performance, ensuring accuracy and compliance with university policies.
  • Coordinate necessary interruptions of services between administration, Physical Plant, and contractors.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications, serving as project coordinator with architects, engineers, contractors, and administrators.
  • Maintain documentation of all assigned projects using IU-issued software, including timelines, schedules, and substantial completion.
Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
Work Experience

Required:

  • 2 years of construction management experience and/or large-format planning, experience managing multi-disciplined construction projects with scopes of work including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical
Licenses and Certificates

Required:

  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

  • Demonstrated working knowledge and practical application and experience in word processing, spreadsheet, planning, and data base software use as well as e-mail utility
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience and advanced skills in project management/project communication
Working Conditions/Demands

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception.
