Position Overview:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is tasked with managing the complete product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to production, with a specific emphasis on electro-mechanical design, redesign, assembly of components, and the creation of detailed part drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct design initiatives, encompassing both new product creation and existing product enhancements.
- Generate and disseminate essential engineering documentation, including Engineering Change Notices, bills of materials, and parts tracking systems.
- Engage with cross-disciplinary teams and provide updates on project status to upper management.
- Effectively juggle multiple projects while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to devise cost-efficient solutions.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior engineers.
- Oversee prototyping, testing, and assembly of samples.
- Coordinate and lead team meetings focused on significant product milestones.
- Innovate and develop new product ideas in response to market demands.
- Formulate and document testing strategies, manage prototypes, and coordinate assembly with external partners.
- Produce and modify CAD drawings and models, ensuring optimal design outcomes.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in the development of lighting products.
- A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering, or a related analytical discipline.
- Expertise in both 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Experience in managing projects effectively.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks with a sense of urgency.
- Familiarity with Waterfall/gate-style product development methodologies; Agile experience is advantageous.
- Understanding of Lean principles, including Kaizen, continuous improvement, poka-yoke, and 5S.
- Moderate knowledge of electrical circuits, reliability, wiring, and control protocols.
