Job Overview

Position Summary

The Career and Housing Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting individuals in achieving immediate housing stability and accessing educational and employment opportunities. This position involves collaborating with clients to create personalized service plans that encompass housing solutions, educational aspirations, job training, and employment services. The Specialist works in conjunction with other professionals in the Workforce Advancement sector to ensure comprehensive support for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload by aiding clients in achieving housing stability while addressing both short-term and long-term challenges.
  • Assist clients in their career advancement by providing guidance on resume development, job applications, interview preparation, and essential soft skills. Maintain regular communication with clients in line with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with clients to formulate a strengths-based and solution-oriented assessment, along with a tailored career plan that identifies both immediate and future objectives and resources to facilitate their journey towards stability, education, training, and employment.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of local low-income housing options and trends to support clients' stabilization needs.
  • Work alongside relevant social service professionals to deliver essential services that promote housing and employment stability for clients.
  • Effectively intervene in crisis situations, devising appropriate interventions and follow-up strategies to address immediate and ongoing needs while ensuring safety.
  • Enroll clients in various programs, gather necessary information, and compile reports to meet performance benchmarks established by the organization and funding entities.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of client interactions through tracking databases, adhering to data entry standards set by the organization and funding sources, while ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Engage and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
  • Participate in community collaborations and inter-agency discussions that align with the organization's mission and support client objectives.
  • Evaluate and enhance performance in digital literacy and participant engagement as it pertains to career readiness and individual goals. Contribute to the development and refinement of digital skills training materials.
  • Uphold client confidentiality and prepare necessary documentation and reports as required.
  • Stay informed and implement organizational policies effectively.
  • Provide information and referrals for community-based services as needed.
  • Network and collaborate with community partners to enhance service delivery.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Role

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Education, Human Services, Counseling, or a related field is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in Windows-based applications is essential.
  • Understanding of client assessment techniques, community resource coordination, housing stabilization strategies, career planning principles, employability skills, and crisis intervention methods.
  • Familiarity with best practices for serving marginalized populations, including those experiencing homelessness, re-entry, opportunity youth, and individuals with disabilities.
  • A valid Texas Driver's License, a clean driving record, liability insurance, and a reliable vehicle for work-related travel are required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and verbal communication are required.
  • Ability to manage moderate stress levels is necessary. Specific vision capabilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
