Position Overview:
The Nuclear Medicine Specialist is responsible for performing and instructing diagnostic procedures within the Nuclear Medicine field. This role involves the administration of radiopharmaceuticals, operation of sophisticated imaging equipment, and analysis of the resulting data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Radiopharmaceutical Administration & Documentation:
Accurately identifies patients, verifies essential information, and establishes venous access for the administration of radiopharmaceuticals. Ensures meticulous record-keeping of the administration route, dosage, and technologist's initials. - Patient Interaction:
Effectively communicates the examination process to patients, secures informed consent, and completes necessary documentation for patient information input into the radiology management system. - Patient Assessment:
Reviews requisitions, medical charts, and laboratory results. Conducts thorough patient assessments, confirming the status of female patients of childbearing age and arranging for necessary pregnancy testing as directed. - Advanced Imaging Techniques:
May engage in advanced responsibilities, including those associated with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging and lead technologist duties. - Radiopharmaceutical Management:
Handles the receipt, documentation, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with established safety guidelines. - Quality Control:
Ensures the selection, dosage, and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals are appropriate for the prescribed procedures, maintaining accurate records. - Image Acquisition & Analysis:
Sets up imaging acquisitions per established protocols, prioritizing patient comfort and safety. Analyzes images for accuracy and processes them for physician review. - Documentation & Reporting:
Utilizes Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Clinical Information Systems (CIS), and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) to generate and maintain accurate documentation.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
- Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or registry eligible with a commitment to obtain registration within one year of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
- No prior experience is required.
