Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Living Coordinator to join our team at the League for the Blind and Disabled Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading institutional transition and diversion efforts, providing independent living skills training, and conducting presentations on relevant topics related to independent and community living.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead institutional transition and diversion efforts to support individuals with disabilities
  • Provide independent living skills training to individuals with disabilities
  • Conduct presentations on relevant topics related to independent and community living
  • Conduct and participate in individual and systemic advocacy activities
Expected Outcomes
  • Serve a minimum of 65 active consumers per year
  • Achieve a program consumer goal accomplishment rate of at least 65%
  • Assist 20 consumers per year avoid institutionalization or return to the community from institutions
  • Assist 60% of those served each year increase their ability to access transportation, housing, health care, and/or adaptive equipment
  • Assist 70% of those served each year increase their ability to care for themselves, their family, or household
  • Ensure 70% of consumer served will remain independent in their homes
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or two years of post-secondary education and two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, legislation/regulations, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or other community entities
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or community groups
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and efficiently with volunteers, agency board members, staff members, agency management, and the general public
  • Ability to quickly build positive relationships with volunteers, agency board members, staff members, and visitors/callers
  • Ability to work independently, maintain positive working relationships, and function consistently as a contributing member of the League's staff and management team
Physical Demands
  • Ability to regularly talk and hear to communicate
  • Ability to regularly use fingers, hands, and arms to manipulate objects
  • Ability to regularly sit, stand, and walk
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
Equipment Operation Requirements
  • Ability to independently operate, or learn to operate, League office equipment such as fax/copy machines
  • Ability to independently operate, or learn to independently operate, the League's computer network and software
Travel Requirements
  • Ability to travel independently throughout the League's service region and occasionally in an interstate region
Work Environment
  • Ability to work in a moderate noise level environment
