Position Overview

Job Summary: The Substance Abuse Counselor plays a critical role in providing comprehensive treatment and recovery services for individuals facing substance use challenges. This position requires a deep understanding of recovery processes and the ability to support clients through their journey.

Qualifications:

  1. Must hold a current certification or registration with recognized certifying organizations in California (e.g., CCAPP, CAADE). Registrants are required to obtain certification within five years of registration as per DHCS regulations.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in active recovery programs is essential.
  3. Preferred: At least two years of experience specifically as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
  4. Knowledge of evidence-based treatment approaches tailored for women in recovery is crucial.
  5. A valid California driver's license is required.
  6. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver both group and individual counseling sessions focused on substance use treatment and recovery.
  2. Conduct thorough assessments and develop personalized treatment plans for clients.
  3. Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively for documentation and client management.
  4. Maintain a manageable caseload as the primary counselor for clients.
  5. Ensure comprehensive clinical records are kept in accordance with agency standards and regulatory requirements.
  6. Collaborate with referring agencies and community organizations to coordinate client treatment.
  7. Gather and analyze outcome data, including client satisfaction surveys, as mandated by agency policies.
  8. Implement program objectives to fulfill contractual obligations and productivity standards.
  9. Engage in monthly peer review sessions to enhance service delivery.
  10. Uphold infection control protocols and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
  11. Administer urine and/or saliva tests for clients as part of the treatment process.
  12. Employ de-escalation techniques to manage crisis situations effectively.
  13. Administer the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) to assist in suicide prevention efforts.

Additional Duties:

  1. Participate in all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  2. Report any suspected cases of child or dependent adult/elder abuse or neglect to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  3. Notify supervisors of any clients posing imminent danger to themselves or others without delay.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
