Job Summary:

The Clinical Dietitian plays a vital role in the multidisciplinary healthcare team, coordinating evidence-based medical nutrition therapy to ensure patient-focused medical goals are met.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to assess and address patient nutritional needs.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to develop and implement nutrition care plans.
  • Providing education and counseling to patients and their families.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and contributing to the development of hospital policies.
Responsibilities:

The Clinical Dietitian will:

  • Assess patient nutritional needs using standardized practice and critical thinking.
  • Identify nutrient requirements based on age, disease, and individual needs.
  • Act as a resource person for the specialty team and serve as a liaison between medical specialties and ancillary services.
  • Assist in achieving compliance with regulatory agency standards.
  • Attend medical rounds, patient care conferences, and continuing education/staff meetings.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, the Clinical Dietitian must:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree from a US regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
  • Be a Registered Dietitian (RD) by The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) and/or Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.
  • Have no prior experience required except for specific positions.
