Position Overview: The Range Safety/System Safety Engineer will play a pivotal role in the Systems Engineering & Mission Integration team, contributing to various programs operating at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB). This role involves providing objective system safety engineering expertise to the Sentinel program, ensuring thorough technical assessments from design through flight testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver system safety expertise and recommendations to the Sentinel program, focusing on compliance with contractor AFSCMAN 91-710, RCC 319, and RCC 324 deliverables.
  • Analyze and assess the performance of Sentinel weapons systems during flight tests and related activities.
  • Support systems engineering efforts during design reviews and technical meetings at various facilities.
  • Conduct system engineering and launch verification tasks at VSFB for National Security Space Launch (NSSL) programs.
  • Evaluate technical aspects of launch vehicle ground infrastructure upgrades and maintenance.
  • Provide readiness assessments of launch vehicle ground systems to support testing and launch operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or systems engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify hazardous conditions and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 30% of the time.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a TS/SSBI and Special Access Program security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications for Senior Project Engineer:

  • At least 12 years of engineering experience.
  • Proficient in developing technical performance assessments for missile and launch vehicle systems.
  • Experience with launch vehicle processing, including design and integration.
  • Demonstrated application of systems engineering principles.
  • Ability to utilize corporate resources effectively to meet project requirements.
  • Familiarity with national security space systems.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports and presenting findings to management.
