Position Overview:
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Staff Nurse delivers comprehensive nursing care and services to patients and their families. This role includes providing guidance to licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistive personnel, ensuring that nursing care is delegated in accordance with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards. The Staff Nurse acts as the primary caregiver, serving as a resource and preceptor for other nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibits professional nursing practices while delegating tasks to nursing assistive personnel and offering direction to LPNs as necessary.
  • Employs the nursing process to ensure effective patient care delivery.
  • Conducts tasks that require nursing expertise, judgment, and skills.
  • Administers prescribed medications accurately.
  • Educates LPNs and nursing assistive personnel on specialized nursing care tasks.
  • Assesses staff competency in performing specialized nursing tasks as appropriate.
  • Takes responsibility for the quality of nursing care provided and the adequacy of care when delegating tasks.
  • Functions as the primary nurse and total patient caregiver.
  • Acts as a resource nurse and preceptor for nursing staff.
  • Assumes charge duties as assigned.
  • Incorporates the organizational vision, model, and values into nursing practice.
  • Performs additional duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned within the scope of practice.
  • May be required to work in different cost centers or locations as needed to meet patient care demands.
Qualifications:
Experience:
  • N/A
Education:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers or Basic Life Support certification.
  • Registered Nurse License (Hawaii) required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated skills in adaptability, decision-making, customer service, and teamwork.
  • One (1) year of experience in a specialty area or completion of a formal course in the specialty within a designated timeframe after hire.
  • Specialty areas may include: Operating Room, Emergency Department, Telemetry, Intensive Care Units, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Cardiology, Ambulatory Treatment, Diagnostic Imaging, and Oncology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • One (1) year of experience or completion of a formal course in a specialty area.
  • Coursework in basic EKG.
