Position Overview:
The State of Montana is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Technician to join our team in Stanford.

This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including labor tasks, leadership duties, equipment operation, and truck driving, all focused on highway maintenance operations.

The Maintenance Technician will handle various machinery, including trucks, to execute routine maintenance tasks such as ditch cleaning, patching, overlays, fence repairs, lawn mowing, and transporting materials or equipment.

During winter months, the technician will load sanding materials and conduct snow removal and sanding operations.

Key responsibilities include ensuring the effective operation of machinery, which involves pre-operational checks, scheduled maintenance, fluid replenishment, and replacing components such as pins and cutting edges.

This position may also involve additional related tasks as necessary.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience Requirements:
Applicants should possess knowledge of highway maintenance and the equipment typically utilized in this field, including basic diesel and gasoline vehicle maintenance.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience driving heavy trucks and operating construction equipment, along with basic skills in mathematics, computer usage, and record-keeping.
  • A valid Montana Class A Type II Commercial Operator's license with endorsements for air brakes and tanker is mandatory. Candidates with a Class B license or a learner's permit with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Successful candidates must reside or be willing to relocate within 45 road miles of the assigned maintenance section and must have reliable communication access.
  • Compliance with safety protocols and successful completion of pre-employment testing for controlled substances is required.
  • Driving records will be verified, and candidates must authorize the Department to obtain their permanent driving records.
  • This position is part of the AFSCME bargaining union, and more information regarding union membership will be provided during onboarding.
  • Advancement opportunities are available through a Career Ladder Advancement Policy (Levels I - IV), with pay determined by experience and training.
