Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Underwriter will exhibit exceptional skills in risk evaluation, selection, and retention of profitable business within designated authority limits. This role necessitates effective collaboration with sales teams, brokers, and internal stakeholders.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Engage with sales and service partners to deliver products and plan options that align with customer needs.
Assess and select risks to ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the continued retention of existing cases.
Conduct thorough risk evaluations on all cases to ensure compliance with business guidelines, profit targets, and performance metrics. Identify and analyze risk trends, providing recommendations for mitigation.Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Company's product offerings, sales, implementation, and enrollment processes, as well as market influences.
Provide reliable, accurate, and timely service while fostering relationships with internal and external partners.
Support the training, technical development, and mentoring of junior underwriters.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
Proven proficiency at the Underwriter level.
In-depth knowledge of product provisions, plan designs, pricing, and contractual benefits.
Strong technical expertise in risk selection.
Understanding of financial objectives and performance metrics.
Demonstrated knowledge of sales and distribution processes and market trends.
Effective mentoring and coaching abilities.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to persuade and negotiate effectively.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Commitment to quality and personal accountability for results.
The base salary range for this position is provided below.
Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, geographical location, and experience.
$53, $95,900.00Additionally, Unum offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits portfolio, including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution regardless of employee contribution.
