Job Title: Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician

The Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician is a critical role at J. A. Riggs Tractor, responsible for providing top-notch repair services on heavy equipment to meet customer needs in a timely and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies with minimal supervision.
  • Utilize hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools, instruments, and laptops to diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Understand and apply basic manuals, schematics, and parts books to ensure accurate installation and repair.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of engine and compressor systems to troubleshoot and repair complex issues.
  • Troubleshoot systems to identify errors and implement effective solutions.
  • Develop mastery-level knowledge of hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools, and instruments to ensure efficient and accurate repairs.
  • Meet flat rate times and re-do metrics by completing assigned jobs and tasks in a timely manner.
  • Work safely and adhere to all Riggs safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Complete related paperwork and access databases required to complete job tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and calculate figures and amounts as required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of database software, internet software, and order processing systems.
  • Clean driving record for field assignment.
  • Must be at least 21 years old to be assigned and operate field vehicle.
  • Must be able to complete a DOT physical.
  • May require MSHA certification.
  • Flexibility to work various schedules.
Work Environment:

The Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician will work in a fast-paced environment, often in remote locations, and will be required to travel up to 95% of the time. The position is considered a safety-sensitive position, and the employee will be required to adhere to all Riggs safety policies and procedures.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will be required to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat, and will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other hazards.
