Pulmonary Critical Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Job Summary

Piedmont Newton is seeking a highly skilled Pulmonary Critical Care Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our team. As a member of our critical care team, you will assist in the management of critically ill patients in the hospital, applying specialized skills and knowledge related to ICU, CCU, and CVICU settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient's physician.
  • Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations, documenting findings in accordance with hospital requirements.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of procedures to patients, their families, staff, and healthcare learners.
  • Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient clinical status and document procedures in accordance with hospital requirements.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and external cardiac massage, airway management, and administration of life-supporting drugs according to established protocols.
  • Insert and manage arterial catheters, dialysis catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, chest tubes, thoracenteses, endotracheal tubes, and extraglottic devices under physician direction and within credentialing standards.
  • Interface patients with monitoring and instrumentation equipment and direct and educate others in performing the same functions.
  • Formulate and implement treatment plans for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending backup physician(s) and document in medical records and narrative summaries.
  • Assess patients for changes in status and institute appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patients.
  • Participate in clinical research and trials, including obtaining consent, ordering diagnostic tests, recording laboratory and diagnostic results, administering therapeutic interventions, and documenting and reporting patient outcomes.
  • Perform quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Serve as a clinical expert and education consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team, and the larger community.
  • Identify educational needs of families and participate in teaching opportunities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with team members and patients.
  • Ability to understand legal issues that influence the practice of APPs.
Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current Georgia license for Advanced Practice Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing, or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistants program with current license for the Georgia State Composite Board.
  • Minimum experience required: N/A.
  • Minimum licensure/certification required by law: Licensed Physician Assistant in the State of Georgia or Licensed for Advanced Practice Nursing (ACNP).
