Breastfeeding Support Specialist

At Kootenai Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Breastfeeding Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our lactation team, you will play a vital role in supporting new mothers and their babies in achieving a successful breastfeeding experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and providers to develop and implement individualized breastfeeding plans for new mothers and their babies.
  • Provide comprehensive breastfeeding support and education to new mothers, including guidance on proper latch technique, positioning, and frequency of feedings.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of new mothers and their babies to identify any potential breastfeeding challenges or complications.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address breastfeeding challenges and complications, including the use of breast pumps and other equipment.
  • Provide ongoing support and education to new mothers and their families throughout the breastfeeding journey.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care and support for new mothers and their babies.
Requirements:
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a lactation consultant in an acute care or outpatient setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with new mothers, their families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to providing exceptional patient care and support.
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position for extended periods.
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job, including breast pumps and other lactation equipment.
