We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Lactation Specialist to join our team at Kootenai Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in supporting new mothers and their babies in achieving successful breastfeeding outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with nursing staff and providers to develop and implement individualized breastfeeding plans for patients.
- Provide comprehensive breastfeeding support and education to new mothers, including guidance on proper latch technique, breast care, and common breastfeeding challenges.
- Conduct thorough assessments of the physical, emotional, and social needs of new mothers and their babies.
- Monitor and track the progress of breastfeeding patients, including weight gain and feeding milestones.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote successful breastfeeding outcomes, including the use of hospital-grade breast pumps and other breastfeeding aids.
- Provide phone triage and counseling services to new mothers and their families.
- Facilitate breastfeeding classes and workshops for prospective parents.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in lactation and breastfeeding support.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Lactation Consultant in an acute care or outpatient setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position for extended periods.
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job.
- Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and pushing heavy stretchers and other equipment.
- Frequent moving, transferring, and positioning of patients with and/or without assistance.
