Transportation Specialist

This position requires a skilled driver who can operate light buses and/or vans safely and efficiently. Key responsibilities include completing a training program, transporting clients according to a pre-planned route, and communicating with parents and staff. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of passenger assistance guidelines and passenger restraint procedures, as well as the ability to operate manual and remote-controlled wheelchair lifts. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy driving and want to make a positive impact in the lives of children.

  • Complete the Training program within 30 days of employment:
    • Hands-on Training with another Driver
    • Online Training Course
  • Transport clients to and from the contracted vendor and designated location, following a pre-planned route according to a definite time schedule; communicating in harmony with parents and staff.
  • Drive bus cautiously and in compliance with traffic regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of all passengers in loading, unloading, and transporting them to and from a pre-determined designated location and the contracted vendor.
  • Be knowledgeable of Passenger Assistance guidelines and passenger restraint procedures.
  • Operate manual and remote-controlled wheelchair lifts.
  • Regulate heating equipment and ventilation of buses for the comfort of passengers.
  • Log mechanical inspection (lights, tires, etc.) and cleanliness of vehicle on daily trip sheet; document findings or concerns.
  • Check water, gas, oil, and mechanical condition of the bus weekly.
  • Report delays and accidents immediately.
  • Report defects or problems with vehicle to SDON immediately.
  • Keep operational records and make simple reports.
  • Assure bus meets regular maintenance schedules.
  • Perform related work as required, such as vehicle cleaning as needed.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of precautions necessary to avoid accidents.
  • Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, timesheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports, etc.
  • Ability to operate basic computer functions and smartphone devices.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
