The New York Public Library is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Young Adult Librarian to join our team. This exciting role offers the opportunity to empower young adults ages 12-18 to become creative thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and resourceful users of information.

About the Role

This position will play a key role in providing reference service and resource recommendations using print, media, and digital resources. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Youth Educational Services Department to develop, promote, facilitate, and evaluate innovative programs to meet the expressed and anticipated needs of the community's young adult population.

Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Design and implement engaging programs for young adults, including reading clubs, homework help, instructional workshops, STEM and literacy programs, gaming, summer reading events, and maker programs.
  • Collection Development: Work with the collection development team to build and maintain a diverse, current, and relevant Young Adult collection that meets the needs of the community.
  • Community Engagement: Conduct outreach to and develop partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, and local businesses to promote the library's services, programs, and collections.
  • Digital Literacy: Provide age-appropriate technology instruction to young adults and encourage digital literacy.
  • Space Management: Develop and maintain the layout and appearance of the young adult space, ensuring a safe and inviting area filled with relevant resources.
  • Volunteer Management: Facilitate the work and activities of teen volunteers and teen advisory councils.
  • Marketing and Communications: Develop and maintain content for social media platforms and other marketing channels.
Requirements
  • A master's degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA-accredited program.
  • A Public Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York.
  • At least $55,027 per year, with the potential for salary increases based on performance.
