The New York Public Library is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Young Adult Librarian to join its team in the Eastchester branch. This role offers an exciting opportunity to empower young adults ages 12-18 to become creative thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and resourceful users of information.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide reference service and resource recommendations using print, media, and digital resources. They will also collaborate with the Youth Educational Services Department to develop, promote, facilitate, and evaluate innovative programs for young adults. The ideal candidate will have experience creating and conducting a variety of programs for this age group and possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

This is a 35-hour per week position, scheduled during regular branch hours. The salary for this role is estimated to be around $55,000-$65,000 per year, based on location and experience.

About the Role

  • Provide reference service and resource recommendations using print, media, and digital resources
  • Collaborate with the Youth Educational Services Department to develop, promote, facilitate, and evaluate innovative programs for young adults
  • Participate in collection development and maintenance to ensure a diverse and relevant collection for young adults
  • Engage young adults with the collection through programming and outreach activities
  • Develop partnerships with community-based organizations, schools, and local businesses to promote the library's services and programs

Requirements

  • ALA accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Studies
  • Public Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York
  • Strong commitment to public service and the ability to work well with a diverse patronage
  • Experience creating and conducting programs for young adults
  • Knowledge of emerging library technologies and trends in young adult literature
