Adult Librarian

The New York Public Library is seeking a skilled Adult Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our Adult Services department, you will be responsible for cultivating creative thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and resourceful users of information.
Key Responsibilities- Reference Service and Resource Recommendations: Provide expert guidance to patrons on print, media, and digital resources, ensuring they have access to the information they need.
- Program Development and Promotion: Collaborate with the Adult Educational Services Department to design, promote, and deliver innovative programs that meet the diverse needs of our adult community, including book discussions, author talks, technology classes, and more.
- Collection Development and Maintenance: Partner with the collection development team to build and maintain a diverse, current, and relevant Adult collection that meets the needs of our community.
- Community Outreach and Partnerships: Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to promote the library's services, programs, and collections, with a focus on adults.
- Digital Literacy and Technology Instruction: Encourage digital literacy and provide technology instruction to adults, helping them develop the skills they need to succeed in today's digital world.
- Space Design and Maintenance: Ensure the adult space is welcoming, safe, and well-maintained, with relevant resources and materials available to patrons.
- Social Media and Content Creation: Develop and maintain content for social media platforms, including Library blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest.
- Staff Development and Support: Mentor library staff in preparing and presenting adult programs, and provide support and guidance as needed.
- Circulation and Administrative Tasks: Assist with circulation, fines and fees management, reserves, and opening/closing procedures, as well as perform other related duties as required.
- Education and Experience: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Studies, and Public Librarian's Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York.
- Skills and Qualifications: Strong commitment to public service, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience creating and conducting innovative programs for adults, knowledge of adult literature and collection development, and ability to work well with diverse patrons and staff.
