Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plumber to join our Facilities Management Division in Broward County. As a Plumber, you will be responsible for performing a variety of journey-level plumbing and related maintenance and repair work.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect public restrooms to ensure fixtures are working properly and identify non-working fixtures.
  • Replace broken fixtures, valves, pumps, controllers, and irrigation heads to restore restroom, lift station, or irrigation system functionality.
  • Troubleshoot non-working fixtures, valves, irrigation systems, and lift station pumps to identify the nature of the problem and type of repair needed.
  • Inspect irrigation systems and lift stations to ensure pumps/systems are working properly and identify non-working pumps/systems.
  • Repair a variety of plumbing fixtures, valves, lift station/swimming pool pumps, and irrigation components to restore fixtures, valves, lift stations, water park features, and irrigation systems to proper working condition and minimize replacement costs.
  • Perform routine maintenance on waste system lines, lift stations, and/or irrigation systems to ensure systems are functioning properly.
  • Cut openings in walls for pipes, bend pipes over blocks by hand, cut, ream, and thread pipe, dig trenches or holes with necessary equipment, install, maintain, and repair water circulation and irrigation systems, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sewers, vents, and other sanitary fixtures.
  • Install and maintain PVC pipe systems by opening clogged drains with a plunger or other devices, replace washers on leaky faucets, test for leaks by filling pipe with water under pressure and checking with a gauge for fall pressure.
  • Install pipe and hose on spray trucks, and other specially designed equipment and apparatus.
  • Repair, replace, and check high and low pressure steam boilers, blow down and flush boilers, check all safety devices and controls, replacing and repairing when needed, flush and clean boilers, storage and return tanks, hot water heaters, and similar apparatus.
  • Make estimates of time and materials, supervise the work of helpers assisting in various phases of the work, interact with the public to answer questions, identify their service needs, or locate missing materials.
Requirements
  • Requires two (2) years in maintenance plumbing or closely related experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
  • Completion of a vocational training program in plumbing that includes commercial or industrial level instruction.
  • Certified or Registered Plumbing Contractor.
  • Five (5) years plumbing experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
  • Five (5) years experience in the operation and maintenance of domestic hot water systems.
  • Five (5) years experience in drain systems and/or grease trap systems maintenance.
Work Environment

This position involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals.
