POSITION TITLE:
Speech Language Pathologist

REPORTS TO:
Therapy Program Manager

DIVISION:
Rehabilitation Services

Objective:

The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for delivering comprehensive services to residents, which includes assessment, treatment, program development, and documentation, all while adhering to physician directives.


Required Qualifications:
  • Proficient in evaluating residents with communication and swallowing challenges.
  • Skilled in interpreting assessment results and communicating them effectively.
  • Capable of creating and implementing tailored treatment strategies.
  • Experienced in maintaining accurate documentation of care in line with established protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Judgment and Quality Assurance:
  • Deliver Speech-Language Pathology services to residents and initiate referrals as necessary, following departmental guidelines.
  • Conduct regular screenings to assess the need for further intervention.
  • Evaluate residents to gather essential data for effective treatment planning and execution.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on residents' responses to interventions, in accordance with physician orders.

Communication:
  • Clearly communicate evaluation results to residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Engage in educational activities for residents, families, and staff.
  • Provide in-service training for the care team and educational outreach to the community.
  • Foster positive relationships with coworkers, residents, and their families.

Planning and Organization:
  • Collaborate with team members to establish individualized resident schedules.
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans that outline identified issues, goals, and methods for achievement.
  • Maintain an organized workspace to minimize disruptions.
  • Coordinate treatment strategies with residents, families, and other professionals.

Documentation:
  • Accurately document assessments, treatments, follow-ups, and service terminations.
  • Record indirect and billable treatment times according to departmental standards.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to exert varying levels of force to move objects and assist residents. Regular activities include standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting. The position demands sufficient visual and auditory acuity to ensure resident safety.


Educational Background:
  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of the National Certification Examination for Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure.
