Job Summary

Olympic College seeks a highly qualified and dedicated Diverse Student Support Specialist to join our team. This full-time faculty position will focus on providing culturally responsive and affirming services to historically marginalized groups, including students of color, LGBTQIA/gender fluid populations, and students of all abilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct services to new, returning, and continuing students, including personal counseling, crisis intervention, career counseling, group counseling, and referrals to academic advising and other college and community resources.
  • Assist students in identifying and resolving problems affecting their educational and personal development by clarifying short and long-range goals.
  • Intervene and provide guidance for students experiencing barriers to academic success.
  • Participate in college-wide student retention and success programs and activities.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and staff regarding student issues that impact academic success.
  • Serve as a liaison to instructional divisions and the community in providing counseling and retention-related services.
  • Administer and interpret individual and group career and psychometric assessments.
  • Provide coverage during non-instructional weeks, in consultation with the counseling team and supervisor.
  • Maintain records of contacts with students and complete forms as required, adhering to American Counseling Association (ACA) and state of Washington ethical and legal standards.
  • Participate in faculty development and governance activities.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide committees and projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, counseling psychology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Graduate program must include at least two quarters of supervised counseling practicum/clinical work.
  • Two years of full-time experience counseling individuals regarding personal, mental health, career, and academic issues.
  • Counseling training and experience as a generalist able to address a wide variety of issues, including suicide prevention, crisis counseling, stress management, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, domestic violence, sexual assault, and parenting concerns.
  • Demonstrated expertise, experience, and commitment to providing culturally responsive and affirming services to historically marginalized groups.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed prior to employment as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the State of Washington.
  • Two years of full-time experience providing mental health counseling at a community college or university.
  • Broad knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to work independently and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with a multicultural and diverse faculty, staff, student, and community population.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and make recommendations.
  • Effective presentation skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $71,619 - $99,041 per year, commensurate with educational background and experience. Olympic College offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans, and tuition waivers.
