Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans: Create and implement individualized education plans that address the unique needs of each student, including academic, social, and emotional goals.
  • Provide a Safe and Supportive Learning Environment: Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth for all students.
  • Collaborate with Colleagues: Work closely with colleagues, including instructional staff, administrators, and support staff, to ensure student success and achieve established classroom objectives.
  • Assess and Document Student Progress: Regularly assess and document student progress towards established goals, providing feedback to students, parents, and administrators as needed.
  • Communicate with Parents and Guardians: Maintain open and regular communication with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of student progress and involving them in the educational process.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education and to enhance teaching skills.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education License with an endorsement in Special Education, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance and Tuberculosis Skin Test.
