Job Summary:
The Gifted Education Specialist will facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, and addressing specific educational needs of students. The ideal candidate will provide a safe and optimal learning environment, communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration, and contribute to the development of individualized learning plans.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the administration of special TAG programs for screening, referral, identification, and placement of TAG students.
- Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans.
- Administer developmental testing programs and/or subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, communicate expectations, and develop methods for improvement.
- Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals, and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve established classroom objectives.
- Counsel students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Demonstrate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
- Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
- Facilitate student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined lesson plan.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment, model conversation, manners, clean-up activities, listening skills, etc.
- Monitor students in various educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Organize age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
- Participate in meetings to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
- Prepare written materials, such as grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc., to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Report incidents, such as fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc., to maintain student safety and adhere to Education Code and school policies.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Respond to inquiries from various sources to resolve issues, provide information, and/or direction.
- Support classroom teachers to assist in implementing established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
Requirements:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
- Tuberculosis Skin Test.
- Must follow safety and health protocols.
