Job FunctionThe Multi-Skilled Mechanic will be based out of Baltimore, MD, and will be responsible for ensuring the efficient maintenance and operation of our plant equipment, buildings, and facilities within a unionized environment. This role demands technical proficiency and a collaborative approach in working alongside hourly maintenance employees and instrumentation technicians.
ResponsibilitiesPipe-FittingThe successful candidate will understand basic pipe-fitting theory and fluid dynamics, know proper use of levels, plumb bobs, and layout techniques, and be able to identify and use various types of piping materials and schedules. They will also be able to operate pipe-threading equipment, perform proper gasket and bolt-up techniques, bevel and prep butt-weld fit-ups, and know proper welding rod for given metallurgy.
Welding/BurningThe ideal candidate will understand concepts of welding, various joints, and joint fit-ups, set up and use cutting torches, and stick weld carbon steel plate and structural material, stainless steel plate and structural material, carbon steel pipe (all positions). They will also be able to braze and solder, carbon and plasma arc gouge.
Millwright/MachinistThe successful candidate will understand theory of thermal expansion, operate shop lathes and milling machines, and be able to properly use calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges, and dial indicators. They will also have understanding of various types of pumps, pump components, lubricants, and lubricating systems, and be able to rebuild gear boxes and gear reducers, pumps, blowers, screws, and conveyors.
Equipment Operation/RiggingThe ideal candidate will understand theory of rigging, rigging safety, use of barricades, load balancing, and spreader devices hazard identification and tag lines. They will also be able to operate forklifts, front-end loaders, and hydraulic cranes, set up and use air compressors and pneumatic tools, select and use proper type and size rigging for a job, and set up and use chain falls and lever hoists (properly).
ElectricalThe successful candidate will understand basic electrical power theory and related safety hazards and proper/safe work procedures, electrical elements and components, terms and definitions, overload protection, fuses, and circuit breakers, and electrical symbols on construction drawings.
Requirements- Previous experience as a Multi-Skilled Mechanic (5-8 years relevant industrial maintenance experience) or First-Class Mechanic (3-5 years relevant industrial maintenance experience and on-the-job evaluation resulting in a score of at least 80% on the Maintenance Skills Matrix) or Second-Class Mechanic (1-3 years relevant industrial maintenance experience and on-the-job evaluation resulting in a score of at least 70% on the Maintenance Skills Matrix)
