Position Overview:

The Breast Imaging Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of mammographic examinations. This professional is tasked with confirming physician orders, meticulously documenting patient histories, and expertly positioning patients for imaging. Collaborating closely with Radiologists and the Mammography team, the Specialist is dedicated to producing high-quality diagnostic images that adhere to established departmental protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients and colleagues, addressing conflicts constructively.
- Uphold the confidentiality of sensitive information related to patients, physicians, and staff.
- Review patient charts and prior mammographic results to determine optimal imaging techniques.
- Greet patients warmly, introducing oneself and explaining the visit's duration while verifying patient identifiers.
- Collect and update patient breast health histories in the designated tracking system.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients to alleviate concerns and ensure cooperation.
- Assess physician requests for mammographic procedures, utilizing patient history and departmental guidelines to determine necessary diagnostic images.
- Operate complex mammographic equipment with precision, demonstrating proficiency in advanced imaging techniques such as spot compression and core biopsy.
- Monitor patients' conditions throughout procedures, ready to respond to any changes requiring immediate action.
- Critique and ensure the quality of diagnostic images, making necessary adjustments based on clinical judgment.
- Collaborate with Radiologists to determine subsequent steps, including additional imaging or follow-up procedures.
- Provide patients with clear communication regarding their mammography results and recommendations for future visits.
- Adhere to strict infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment.
- Document all procedures and quality assurance measures as mandated by regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

- Education: Completion of a JCERT accredited Radiologic Technologist program.
- Experience: Preferred two years as a Radiologic Technologist.
- Certification: Must hold ARRT registration as a Radiographer and Mammography Technologist or be registry-eligible.
- Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care.
