Role Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive accounting support for Vista Recreation. This includes the preparation and review of financial documentation, participation in month-end closing processes, general ledger oversight, and the generation of financial statements at the site level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the management of location bank accounts, ensuring monthly reconciliations, establishing new accounts, and ordering necessary supplies while providing assistance to field personnel as required.
  • Responsible for the preparation, submission, and payment of sales and lodging tax reports, ensuring accuracy and timely compliance.
  • Maintains up-to-date sales and lodging licenses, ensuring timely renewals.
  • Adheres to federal, state, and local sales tax regulations by reviewing current and new legislation, ensuring compliance, and advising management on necessary actions.
  • Collects and organizes weekly revenue reports from area managers, ensuring all reports are accurately filed and received from applicable locations.
  • Supports the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing and reconciling assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Assists in the accounting and monitoring of the company's capital assets.
  • Enhances accounting controls by developing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Validates financial transactions through document audits.
  • Safeguards operations by maintaining the confidentiality of financial information.
  • Establishes new bank accounts, merchant accounts, and business licenses for new contracts and locations.
  • Provides cross-training and backup support for vendor invoice data entry and ensures timely payments of accounts payable.
  • Delivers accounting support to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participates in annual financial audits and ad-hoc audits as necessary.
  • Engages in various accounting and organizational projects as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Two to four years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in multi-state and multi-unit environments is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with NetSuite is advantageous.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel; adept in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, rapidly growing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
