Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Systems Specialist to join our team at the Oregon Department of Transportation. As a key member of our Wireless Communications Section, you will be responsible for constructing, installing, maintaining, and repairing diverse wireless two-way radio and microwave network systems for our assigned service area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate situations and resolve customer inquiries and questions.
  • Install, test, replace, or repair various cable types.
  • Review customer operational needs and requests.
  • Identify, prepare, and provide on-site training for customers.
  • Manage and coordinate the installation of mobile radio equipment.
  • Identify, diagnose, track, and/or report problems and determine repair or replacement priorities.
  • Contact multiple equipment vendors to obtain technical information and request repair or upgrades.
  • Maintain systems and equipment to ensure peak operating condition.
  • Travel to remote locations in various weather conditions to repair, install, and provide emergency restoration of equipment or systems.
  • Climb and work on towers and antenna structures up to 300 feet above ground and work with high voltages.
  • Considerable region-wide or statewide travel in all weather conditions and time of day required.
  • Move or lift heavy objects exceeding 70 pounds following safety procedures.

Requirements:

  • Four (4) years of wireless communications or information systems experience in wireless systems (i.e., two-way radio, microwave).
  • An associate's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field, and two (2) years of information systems experience in wireless systems.
  • A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Journeyman level experience in two-way communications maintenance and repairs.
  • Proficient in Land Mobile Radio P25 Trunked and Analog Repeater systems operations.
  • Experience with Analog and IP Radio Dispatch Console Systems.
  • Proven customer service experience and strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and set schedules as well as computer literacy.
