Position: Scholars Tutor
June Shelton School and Evaluation Center is recognized as a leading private institution dedicated to educating students with average to above-average intelligence who face learning challenges.
We are currently inviting applications for the role of Scholars Tutor to join our Outreach initiative. The Shelton Scholars program is designed to assist students with learning differences who may struggle in conventional educational settings and are not enrolled at Shelton.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a tutor within the Outreach initiative, demonstrating the ability to instruct children aged six and older in reading, spelling, handwriting, auditory processing, and memory enhancement.
- Implement the Sequential English Education (SEE) curriculum effectively.
- The Shelton Scholars program operates on Saturdays throughout the academic year and during summer sessions.
Qualifications
- A High School diploma is mandatory.
- Proficiency in tutoring children aged six years and older, particularly in reading, spelling, and handwriting.
- Experience or knowledge in teaching students with learning differences is advantageous.
- Basic computer literacy and technological proficiency are required.
Essential Duties
- Regular attendance and punctuality are crucial for the successful execution of this role, given the direct interaction with students.
- Follow the curriculum as outlined in the Shelton Scholars curriculum guide.
- Employ effective instructional techniques based on diagnostic assessments, making necessary modifications and accommodations.
- Engage with students in a professional, calm, and supportive manner, acting as an advocate for their educational needs.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow faculty members and non-teaching staff.
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Participate in curriculum and staff meetings pertinent to the Shelton Scholars program.
- Support the mission of the Shelton School by positively representing the institution and fostering a sense of community.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of both Shelton and the Outreach initiative.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Scholars/SEE Coordinator or Executive Director of Emerita.
