{"Job Title": "Code Enforcement Inspector/Part-Time", "Job Summary": "We are seeking a skilled Code Enforcement Inspector to join our team in the City of Rochester, NY. As a Code Enforcement Inspector, you will be responsible for identifying, citing, and correcting code violations related to refuse collection and snow removal. You will also work with the Department of Neighborhood and Business Development to identify, cite, and correct code violations related to high grass and weeds. This is a competitive class position, and the selected candidate will be given a provisional appointment. The individual will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title. Responsibilities: * Inspect residential and commercial areas for violations of City codes related to refuse collection and snow removal * Inspect residential and commercial areas for violations of City codes related to high grass and weeds and issue notices and orders, tickets, and work orders associated with these violations (NBD only) * Investigate incidents of suspected code violations in response to complaints or personal observation * Issue warnings for code infractions and follow up with on-site visits to check for correction of violation * Determine which violations need to be referred to other departments * Determine when violations are a danger to public health or safety and order immediate cleanup by collection crew * Communicate with the public to explain and enforce refuse code, recycling program, snow control codes, and other Operations Bureau projects * Investigate specific code enforcement problems and cooperate with Police Department investigations * Attend neighborhood association meetings as liaison for the City regarding refuse code enforcement * Comply with City and departmental safety policies Requirements: * High school diploma or G.E.D. * Two years of work experience in either refuse collection or code enforcement activities, or two years of work experience in face-to-face customer service, resolving complaints about billing, service, etc. * Possession of a valid NYS Class D driver's license at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position * Must have a car available for daily use Benefits: * The City of Rochester offers a complete benefits package to full-time employees, including health care, dental, vision, retirement, deferred compensation plans, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, long-term disability, holidays, vacation, and sick leave * For less-than full-time employees, the City of Rochester offers numerous growth opportunities, including the potential to transition into full-time, permanent employment Note: * CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION If you are already a City employee and have permanent, competitive status in your current position and appointment to this title would result in a provisional appointment in another department, you will lose your previous permanent competitive rights. Typical Work Activities
