Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity to join the State of New Mexico as a Rail Planner. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Rail Bureau staff in rail planning, developing and maintaining rail databases and reports, and conducting research and planning regarding Rail Runner and other rail topics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage periodic updates to the New Mexico State Rail Plan.
  • Coordinate with federal, state, regional, local, tribal, and private entities on railroad planning in New Mexico.
  • Monitor federal programs for federal funding opportunities and coordinate the state's response.
  • Monitor ridership and other areas of performance of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, business administration, public administration, or political science.
  • Two years of experience in urban, transportation, or infrastructure planning, real estate, commercial or public land usage, grant management, procurement, working with contracts, right of way appraisal, inter-agency coordination, engineering design, business administration, and/or economics.
Working Conditions

This position requires an office setting with extensive personal computer and telephone usage. The incumbent must be able to lift 25 pounds and attend meetings, whether virtual, on-site, or off-site, is required. Occasional overnight travel is also required.
