The Monarch School and Institute is committed to delivering a pioneering, therapeutic educational experience for individuals with neurological differences, including those related to autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder, learning disabilities, Tourette syndrome, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury, and seizure disorders.

The Educational Therapeutic Specialist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with other professionals to provide essential support services to students.

The primary role of the Educational Therapeutic Specialist is to ensure the effective implementation of the psychological services program in alignment with the mission of The Monarch School.

This position is supervised by the Director of Clinical Services and is recognized as part of the Integrated Coaching Team and the day school faculty.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum requirement: Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, education, or a related field (2 years of clinical experience preferred).
  • Must hold a license without the need for supervision.
  • Clinicians should possess experience and a willingness to integrate behavioral and developmental, social-pragmatic intervention strategies.

EXPECTATIONS

  • The Educational Therapeutic Specialist will learn and apply the Monarch Integrated Methodology to enhance relationship development with all students.
  • Admissions Support:
  • Assists Program Directors with the admissions process by reviewing application materials, supporting applicants during visits, and gathering insights from Professional Educators for the admissions team.
  • Reviews assessment or admissions documents and briefs Professional Educators on the individual strengths and needs of each student prior to the start of school, upon admission, and after reevaluations.
  • Leading the treatment team (including professional educators, parents, and students) in developing a treatment plan that incorporates:
  • Learner strengths
  • Targets/objectives/skills within the Four Core Goals
  • Methods for monitoring student progress
  • Support plans to foster success in the classroom and at home through the Four Core Goals
  • Specific therapeutic tasks and practice areas to promote development in the Four Core Goals
  • Providing individualized interventions, which may include:
  • Weekly coaching sessions for assigned students
  • Modeling/role-play/direct teaching
  • Individual or group counseling/psychoeducation as therapeutically indicated
  • Implementing therapeutic curriculum in assigned classrooms
  • Development and monitoring of home/school plans
  • In-vivo support of learners within the academic environment:
  • Crisis management
  • Clinical decision-making regarding crisis situations/crisis response
  • Suicide/risk assessment
  • Assisting students with self-care/accidents
  • Providing necessary student support (regulation, therapeutic, self-care, development, etc.)
  • Direct services to students and teachers; Push-in therapeutic groups for students and modeling for teachers
  • Collaboration:
  • The Educational Therapeutic Specialist collaborates with the Therapy Services department to ensure consistent language, actions, and experiences for students to support their therapeutic needs.
  • Fosters opportunities for student progress by building positive relationships and bridging opportunities between programs within the therapeutic day school.
  • Provides Professional Educators with meaningful feedback to enhance the implementation of the treatment plan and The Monarch School methodology.
  • Supports Professional Educators in developing and implementing all matters related to therapeutic intervention.
  • Coordinates with outside professionals, given appropriate parental consent.
  • Communicates with parents/caregivers regarding student progress in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assists Professional Educators with carpool duties, field trips, and other activities as needed.
  • Meetings and Documentation:
  • Coordinates team meetings with parents.
  • Attends all required student staffings, in-services, and meetings as directed.
  • Assists in developing therapeutic services statements as directed.
  • Submits reports in a timely manner as directed.
  • Maintains accurate and timely therapy, meeting, and consultation notes.
  • Training:
  • Receives supervision and implements suggested actions/changes.
  • Participates in presentations, demonstrations, and literature reviews on educational and psychological issues.
  • Attends professional development as requested.
  • Actively engages in a training environment for graduate students, modeling professional and ethical behavior for trainees.
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates data collection and interpretation for monitoring student progress.
  • Supports educational faculty in developing and implementing schedules, field trips, and large group activities.
  • Attends necessary school functions and student social events after school as directed.
  • Required presence at student retreats twice a year.
  • Assists in recruiting new students and faculty to Monarch during community outreach.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions present a variety of challenges and deadlines.

The ideal candidate should perform well under pressure, think logically, remain calm, and exhibit strong problem-solving skills.

While the position is emotionally rewarding and offers numerous opportunities for positive impact, it can also be stressful at times.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, frequent standing, kneeling, stooping, and bending, as well as the ability to move desks, classroom equipment, and adaptive tools.
