Faculty Position in Anatomical Sciences

The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for a faculty role in the field of Anatomy. We are in search of passionate and innovative professionals who are eager to collaborate with our academic team to educate the future leaders in osteopathic medicine. Our commitment is centered around excellence in education, research, clinical practice, and community service. Candidates must possess a terminal degree (Ph.D., D.O., M.D., D.C.) and demonstrate a strong interest in teaching medical students. Preference will be given to those with a minimum of three years of instructional experience in gross anatomy, including virtual laboratory methodologies, embryology, histology, and neuroanatomy. Faculty rank and compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Faculty Position in Anatomical Sciences entails delivering small group and virtual gross anatomy laboratory instruction to osteopathic medical students. The role also involves serving as a facilitator within the College of Medicine's problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum. The ideal candidate will have the expertise and qualifications to teach at a medical college level and will actively contribute to the institution's growth through research and service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following academic responsibilities may be required as a full-time member of the anatomy faculty:
- Act as a subject matter expert in your field;
- Facilitate Problem Based Learning (PBL) sessions;
- Develop examination materials for PBL assessments in your area of expertise;
- Instruct graduate students in relevant subjects;
- Participate in the interview process for prospective College of Medicine candidates;
- Mentor and advise assigned students;
- Serve as an advisor for at least one student organization;
- Participate in assigned committees;
- Conduct at least one scholarly activity or research project annually;
- Create educational resources (A/V materials, demonstration models, lectures, lesson plans);
- Prepare and deliver lectures, small group discussions, and coordinate educational materials with other faculty members;
- Design evaluation tools to assess student performance and identify areas for improvement;
- Attend approved meetings that promote professional development;
- Contribute to overall student success, including advising and monitoring student outcomes;
- Support the mission of LECOM by engaging in institutional fundraising and participating in community outreach;
- Engage in scholarly activities to enhance the student learning experience;
- Represent LECOM in the community through involvement in boards, fundraisers, and outreach initiatives;
- Follow directives from the Director of PBL and Associate Dean of Preclinical Education;
- Be available for student instruction during assigned hours; and
- Accept additional duties as needed to support institutional goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics:
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite);
- Understanding of student and patient privacy regulations;
- Adherence to OSHA and safety protocols;
- Excellent organizational capabilities;
- Attention to detail and accuracy;

- Reliability in reporting to work as scheduled.
Doctorate level education (Ph.D., D.O., M.D., D.C. or Ed D) with 2-5 years of experience as a subject matter expert. Relevant experience includes cadaveric dissection, virtual lab instruction, and teaching gross anatomy, embryology, histology, and neuroanatomy to graduate and medical students.
Preference will be given to candidates with a progressive teaching philosophy, experience in small group instruction, and a strong commitment to fostering an innovative learning environment. Additional qualifications that enhance the application include a dedication to student mentorship, a positive attitude, and the ability to contribute to the college's development through research and service.
Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
