Position Overview:
The role involves the design, development, research, and evaluation of welding consumables and related processes, alongside conducting applied research in innovative areas of welding consumable design and new welding methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop hard facing, stainless, and nickel welding consumables, welding processes, and testing methodologies, taking into account market demands, industry standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
2. Provide product development and support, focusing on technology and product innovation, as well as process enhancements to ensure the consumable product lines meet performance and cost objectives.
3. Collaborate on customer sales opportunities by assisting in the development of alloy welding application solutions.
4. Work alongside sales and product management to articulate product value propositions and support project completion tasks for product availability.
5. Facilitate the development of manufacturing process capabilities to enable the introduction of new products.
6. Promote technology transfers among Lincoln subsidiary companies as required.
7. Establish standards and methodologies for evaluating product performance, conducting root cause analysis, and resolving warranty issues; refine testing methods as necessary to support new product development and evaluations.
8. Provide task-oriented guidance to Technicians and Technologists.
9. Maintain comprehensive records of all work in progress and document interim and final results in the appropriate format.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry; familiarity with materials analysis techniques is essential.
- Preferred experience includes 3 years for Engineer II and 5 years for Engineer III.
- Experience must encompass manufacturing processes, including welding or casting; arc-welding process optimization; material property characterization techniques, including metallography, electron microscopy, and spectroscopy; and characterization of ceramic and metal powders.
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and MS PowerPoint.
- Understanding of Design for Six Sigma and statistical Design of Experiments methodologies.
- Possesses practical and theoretical knowledge of various arc welding processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
