Job Overview:The Clinical Instructor is responsible for teaching in clinical and laboratory settings, requiring demonstrated knowledge, competence, and experience in a specialty area of practice. The role demands excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage the clinical experience of 8-10 students to achieve curriculum and nursing program objectives.
- Provide a diverse student population with a supportive learning environment through various teaching methods, a curriculum that builds on previous knowledge, and a learning sequence that progresses from simple to complex concepts.
- Establish good working relationships and regular communication between instructor, full-time faculty, and students to enhance the clinical experience.
- Maintain required credentials, licensure, and certifications for teaching and the nursing profession.
- Stay up-to-date technically and apply evidence-based practice in clinical teaching.
- Coordinate clinical patient assignments with facility unit managers/supervisors according to course learning objectives, patient needs, availability, and variety of learning opportunities in the clinical environment.
- Prepare creative activities according to course content to expedite active learning and student involvement.
- Return clinical assignments/paperwork to students in a timely manner with constructive feedback.
- Perform and manage Clinical Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and individual counseling for students who are not meeting clinical outcomes.
- Perform and manage weekly formative student evaluations in a timely manner.
- Perform and manage mid-term and final summative student evaluations in a timely manner.
- Monitor, track, and approve student attendance records in a timely manner.
- Enforce and track student adherence to policies and procedures of the clinical facility and Trocaire College.
- Communicate with the Nursing Clinical Education team any concerns and student issues in a timely manner.
- Adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) that protects the privacy of student educational records.
- Adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) standards to protect individuals' medical records and other personal health information.
- Minimum BSN Degree
- Current/unencumbered New York State (NYS) nursing license as a registered nurse
- Current BLS Certification
- A minimum of two years of clinical experience
- Organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and professional skills
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities
- Readily adapt to change
- Commitment to Mercy Mission and inclusive excellence
- Experience in a higher education setting
- Experience in a clinical teaching role
- MSN Degree or currently enrolled in a graduate nursing program
